2004/2005 EdforDev Scholarship Recipients
Kikaaya, Uganda

In 2004, EdforDev began funding scholarships for these 10 young women while they were in Senior 1 or Senior 2 (7th or 8th grade); we continue to support their education and will do so through graduation from Kikaaya College School.

Rose Nansubuga- 19 years old, Senior 4
Rose's father died in 1996 and her mother, who was a subsistence farmer, died in January of 2004.  Rose is a boarding student at Kikaaya and lives with her elderly and unemployed grandmother during school holidays.  Rose wants to be a nurse.
 
Allen Nalumansi- 16 years old, Senior 4
Allen's mother and father both died when she was in Primary 2 (2nd grade).  Her father was a builder, but Allen knows nothing about her mother, not even her name.  Allen lives with the family of her uncle, a builder who never attended school, and a younger sister.  She hopes to be an accountant.
 
Dinah Nalule- 19 years old, Senior 3
She lives with both of her parents.  Her father does odd jobs and her mother takes care of the family's five children.  Both of Dinah's parents went to primary school.
 
Racheal Nakandi- 16 years old, Senior 3
Racheal has no contact with her father, but her mother visits her periodically.  She lives with her grandmother, who is in her 60's, and her younger sister.  Racheal wants to be a secretary after she finishes secondary school.
 
Juliet Nambooze- Age Unknown, Senior 4
Juliet wants to be an accountant.
 
Gorret Namutebi- 19 years old, Senior 4
Gorret has no contact with her unemployed father and her mother is a fish trader on Lake Victoria, 2 hours away.  Her mother visits about once a month and leaves money for family expenses with a neighbor.  Gorret is the oldest in the household and takes care of her four siblings, aged 2,7,10 and 13.  She wants to be an accountant.
 
Ruth Tusingwire- 19 years old, Senior 4
Both of Ruth's parents have died and she lives with a relative.
 
Grace Nabanoba- 19 years old, Senior 4
Grace's parents are both unemployed and visit her occasionally.  She lives with her 73 year-old grandmother and her 6 siblings.  Grace wants to be a nurse.
 
Agnes Nabakooza- 17 years old, Senior 4
Agnes' father died in 1991 and she has not seen her sick mother for two years.  Agnes lives with her 81 year-old grandfather.
 
Halima Nakasanje- 18 years old, Senior 3
Halima's father died in 1997 and her mother died in 1989.  She lives with her aunt, who is an unemployed widow.
