What We Do » Partnerships
Education for Development frequently partners with members of the communities in which we work, as well as with Rotary International, in addition to the following organizations:
African Leadership Academy - Nominate a Student!
Education for Development has teamed up with the African Leadership Academy to identify outstanding potential students. African Leadership Academy is a pan-African secondary boarding school that aims to develop leaders for Africa and the world in the public, private, and social sectors. Located on the outskirts of Johannesburg, South Africa, the Academy offers a two year "Advanced-level" curriculum in addition to a unique and innovative curriculum in Leadership, Entrepreneurship, and African Studies. Board member, Casia Freitas, was involved in writing the school's leadership curriculum while she was studying at the Stanford University School of Education. The Academy will open its doors to its first cohort of students in September, 2008. Students will have the opportunity to interact with guest speakers and personal mentors who are outstanding leaders and entrepreneurs from across Africa and around the world. Graduates of the Academy will attend the top universities around the world and ultimately form a pan-African network of passionate individuals dedicated to driving development across the continent. If you know an outstanding student between the ages of 15-18 who would be perfect for this opportunity, please visit the website at www.africanleadershipacademy.org to learn more and nominate a student!
Additionally, consider attending ALA's upcoming San Francisco fundraiser, "Forging a Brighter Future for Africa; Announcing the Inaugural Class of Young Leaders." The event will be held Friday, May 30th, 2008 in Apartment 24, 440 Broadway St and Montgomery, San Francisco. Each ticket includes entrance into the club, complimentary wine, and the opportunity to meet two students from African Leadership Academy’s first class. Refund Public Schools
EdforDev is now partnering up with Refund Public Schools (refundpublicschools.org), a web site set up by education researcher, Dr. Lisa Johnson, to encourage Americans to donate all or some part of their economic stimulus package to a non-profit or school committed to public education. The organizations spotlighted on Refund Public Schools all serve to make public education in the United States more effective and more equitable. The Economic Stimulus Act of 2008 (Pub.L. 110-185, 122 Stat. 613, enacted 2008-02-13) is an Act of Congress that includes tax rebates to individual U.S. taxpayers with an adjusted gross income of $75,000 or less ($150,000 for couples filing jointly). Qualifying taxpayers will receive a $600 or $1200 payment from the government that can be used by the individual in any way they see fit. The idea behind Refund Public Schools is that rather than spending money on consumer goods, Americans can put their money back into the places that need it most. It's another way to vote with your dollar. For more information on the Economic Stimulus package, see http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=179211,00.html or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economic_Stimulus_Act_of_2008
