Rotary Supplies Arrive at Namirama.
On April 13 2006, a caravan of trucks and SUVs arrived in Namirama bringing over $10,000 work of school furnishings and supplies. The delivery was made possible through a fundraising project of the Iowa City City High Interact Club begun in the winter of 2004. 2005 graduates Elizabeth Ehly and Tina Pontarelli began the fundraising after reading a newspaper article about Education for Development’s plan to construct a permanent facility for Namirama Community School. The sponsor of the City High group, AM Rotary Club of Iowa City, then involved Rotary International, clubs from Iowa, Uganda and Rotary International. The furnishings and supplies included 72 three-person desks, 20 chairs, 12 tables, $4,000 worth of text books, lab apparatus, and sports uniforms. Read More!!!
Namirama Secondary School Construction
Education for Development has completed our building project for the Namirama Community School in eastern Uganda. EdforDev’s founder and President, Elizabeth Whiston, initiated the building project in partnership with the community while teaching at a neighboring school. After a significant fundraising campaign, a lengthy visit from a young woman engineer to oversee the school’s construction, a recent visit from another EdforDev volunteer, and a $10,000 equipment and supplies grant from Rotary International, the school is complete. Read more about Namirama Village’s history and the reason EdforDev got involved to build a new school below.
