President-Elizabeth Whiston 
Elizabeth Whiston is currently a law student at Columbia University. She spent the summer of 2007 working at a legal human rights NGO in London. She is a graduate of Smith College and spent a year teaching at Yeosu Girls' High School in South Korea on a Fulbright Teaching Grant. Elizabeth returned home in August, 2004 from Uganda where she volunteered for 8 months as a secondary school teacher in a village outside of Kampala; her work there included teaching full days, training school staff in computer use and computerizing school records. Vice President-Satya Byock
Satya has studied sustainable development in Mexico, taught rural kindergartens in central Sri Lanka, worked with Afro-Colombian prisoners in Bogotá, Colombia, and organized farmers towards the sustainable redevelopment of their crop land after the tsunami in coastal Sri Lanka. She is also the founder of Peopleist.org, an online company developed to support a network of individuals seeking to engage in international service opportunities and the unrepresented international communities seeking expertise and support; while pursuing a way to maintain Peopleist full-time, Satya is also attending graduate school in Counseling Psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute and will soon begin pursuing licensure as a psychotherapist. Casia Freitas
Casia Freitas is a Researcher at the New Teacher Center at UC Santa Cruz, where she investigates teacher working conditions and the experiences of new teachers of color. She is currently working with the Petaluma Sunrise Rotary Club (Petaluma, CA) on a number of projects at La Jagua School in La Jagua, Dominican Republic. La Jagua School projects include: the construction of 4 new classrooms, student scholarships, sending school supplies, a water turbine project to generate electricity for the school. Previously, she worked at the Mexico City office of the Institute of International Education (IIE). At IIE, Casia advised Latinos interested in studying in the United States, helped plan two international conferences, and edited a book on bilingual and international schools in Mexico and Central America. She holds an M.A. in International Educational Administration and Policy Analysis from the Stanford University School of Education (Stanford, CA) and a B.A. from Lewis & Clark College (Portland, OR) in International Affairs and Hispanic Studies. She is fluent in Spanish. Casia's interests in education include: social justice in education, improving teacher quality, and the relationship between education and economic development. [ email ]
Treasurer and Secretary-John Whiston
John Whiston joined the University of Iowa College of Law faculty as a visiting professor in 1994 and received a permanent appointment in 1997. He teaches in the UI Clinical Legal Programs, focusing on criminal law and prisoners rights, as well as courses in Worker's Compensation and Trial Advocacy. Before coming to Iowa, John was a partner in the Missoula, MT litigation firm of Rossbach & Whiston, P.C., working primarily in the area of personal injury law. [ email ]
